You might be worried about an adult because

  • You have seen and/or heard something happen 
  • The person has told you something or behaved in a way that worries you or gives you cause for concern 
  • There might be physical signs or unexplained injuries 

What to do if you are worried about an adult
If you think that you or an adult is in immediate danger - don’t delay, call the police on 999. 

If you are concerned about an adult who is experiencing, or at risk of abuse, neglect or harm, you should make a referral to the Trafford Safeguarding Portal via this link: Portal Home.

Alternatively if you want to ask for some advice you can email the Trafford Safeguarding Hub: AdultSafeguardinghub@trafford.gov.uk

If you are concerned that you or another adult is being neglected, harmed or abused in anyway do not ignore it. Any suspicion of abuse or neglect should be reported. 

What happens when you contact the Trafford Safeguarding Hub?
If you report concerns because you suspect you or an adult with care and support needs is being abused or neglected, you will be listened to and taken seriously. Trained staff will work with you and/or the adult to stop the abuse or neglect and agree the next steps, including protective measures to prevent future harm.

  • Help to get an Adult Social Care Assessment

    If you or someone you know needs help with daily living, health, or wellbeing you can contact Trafford Adult Social Care to request a social care assessment.

    Adult Social Care supports:

    • older people
    • people with a disability
    • People with mental health issues or those living with a long-term health condition
    • people recovering from a stay in hospital

    To find out what support is available and to request a social care assessment please follow the link on the Trafford Council’s website.

    Alternatively you can request social care support by calling the team on 0151 912 5199 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

    What happens next

    Once Trafford adult social care have received your request, they will contact you to discuss your needs. If needed, they will arrange an assessment to understand your situation.

    The team will then with you to agree on a plan tailored to your needs.

    Eligibility for adult social care

    To receive social care support, your needs will be assessed against the national eligibility criteria. Find out more about the criteria for social care.

    If you don’t meet the criteria, Trafford social care will give you advice and information about other types of support. They can also help you find services in the community, including free support, to help you stay active and independent.

  • Help to get a Carers Assessment

    A carer's assessment is free, and you can have an assessment even if the person you care for does not get any help from the council.

  • Report a concern about a Professional in Position of Trust

    Other types of concerns 

    You can also report a concern about a professional in you have concerns about the behaviour of someone in a position of trust (PiPOT) working in Trafford.  A position of trust refers to anyone who has responsibility for or influence over the wellbeing of adults, particularly those who may be vulnerable, such as social care workers, personal assistants, support workers etc.

    You can also visit the Crimestoppers website. This provides advice on how to protect people you care about from crime so everyone can feel safe. You can contact the charity by phone on 0800 555 111 and online, on their website, 24/7, 365 days a year. 

    If you think that an adult is in immediate danger from a Person in a Position of Trust, please call 999.

  • Helping people to be safe in Trafford

    Please help us to raise awareness about safeguarding adults by sharing our information videos. They provide information and advice about how to raise concerns if someone is experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect, and how to spot the signs of abuse or neglect.

    • Adult Safeguarding animation - developed by Portsmouth Safeguarding Adults Board to explain what adult safeguarding is and how to get help if you are worried that an adult at risk may be experiencing abuse or neglect.  
    • Tricky Friends animation- developed by Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board to help people to understand what good friendships are, “Tricky Friends” is a short animation developed for people with learning disabilities, autism, or those who have cognitive difficulties to help people maintain safe friendships by recognising harm and exploitation.
